Professional Knowledge

Professional knowledge is a necessity of highly qualified teachers. In order to provide a valuable education to students, successful educators master not only their content area but also pedagogy and communication. Teachers align curriculum with state and school standards. In addition, teachers construct class-wide learning goals and individual learning goals with each student. The educator’s mastery of content, pedagogy, and communication directly correlate to the student’s intellectual, social, and personal development.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry at Virginia Tech. In May 2015, I graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. I began the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Hollins University in February 2016, and I will  graduate in May 2017. My education at Virginia Tech shows mastery of my content area, and my education at Hollins shows mastery of pedagogy.  The two programs developed my communication skills, as well. In addition, I volunteer coached for the  Salem High School Forensics (public speaking) team for the 2016-2017 school year. The team won its twelfth-consecutive state championship this year.
